In Memoriam. Scott D. Whitener, a veteran career and technical education teacherand active ACTE ACTE Association for Career and Technical Education (formerly American Vocational Association)ACTE Association of Corporate Travel ExecutivesACTE Approvals Committee for Terminal EquipmentACTE Anodal Closure Tetanus member, died January 16, 1999, at his home in Rockford,Mich. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. of the National OccupationalCompetency Testing Institute in Big Rapids. He also was the dean of theCollege of Education at Ferris State University Ferris State University consists of eight colleges: Allied Health Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Services, Optometry, Pharmacy, Technology, and Kendall College of Art and Design. Ferris grants doctorate degrees via its Optometry and Pharmacy colleges. from 1986-96, where hehad been a teacher and area career center administrator. Whitener was nationally recognized as a proponent of quality careerand technical education. He served on the National Standards Committeeand on the National Business and Industry Task Force at the AmericanTechnical Education Association. He also was appointed by the NationalGovernors' Association to serve as a charter member of its skillsstandards committee. Whitener devoted most of his time to the development andimplementation of competency assessment. He authored more than 25articles and spoke nationwide about career and technical education.Whitener was co-founder of the North Central Michigan EducationalPartnership and coordinated articulation, tech prep and school-to-workprograms at Ferris State University.
