Under the AMT National Bylaws, the Judiciary Committee has theresponsibility to hear and decide complaints brought against AMT memberswho are alleged to have violated the AMT Standards of Practice or whohave committed acts that are unlawful, unethical, or detrimental to theinterests of the Registry. The Judiciary Committee conducts disciplinaryproceedings under a Member Disciplinary Process approved by the AMTBoard of Directors. The procedures ensure that due process is providedto each accused member/certificant. The following sanctions have been rendered by the JudiciaryCommittee between March 2009 and March 2010. In each case, the reportedsanction is final and no longer subject to appeal. Certification/Membership revocations (permanent): The following member and certificant has had her certifications andmembership privileges revoked permanently, with no opportunity toreinstate or recertify in the future: Jana C. Kirk Riley, RMA--Beaumont Texas The former member was involved in a prescription fraud scheme. Shewas terminated from employment on 7/24/09 for suspected impairment andunprofessional behavior and at that time prescription pads werediscovered to be missing from an exam room. Her former employer filedthe complaint and pursued a police investigation. Further investigationrevealed that the stolen prescription pads had been used to writefraudulent prescriptions for hydrocodone, a controlled substance, andthat the prescriptions had been picked up by an acquaintance of theaccused member's nephew. The member admitted to these acts andbecause of the seriousness of the offense, the Judiciary Committeedetermined that permanent revocation was the appropriate sanction. A second case is pending appeal at this time.
