Lawsuit aims to save CC garden. SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) -- A lawsuit has been filed in an effort tosave part of a Northern California college garden from being turned intoa parking lot. Friends of the College of San Mateo The College of San Mateo is a public community college in San Mateo County, California, formerly known as San Mateo Junior College (SMJC). The college was founded in 1922 and initially shared the campus of San Mateo High School on Ellsworth Avenue. Gardens say in a lawsuit filedthat San Mateo County Community College District The San Mateo County Community College District consists of three colleges; College of San Mateo in San Mateo, Ca?ada College in Redwood City, and Skyline College in San Bruno. The district serves more than 25,000 students each day with both day and evening classes. trustees failed toperform a state-required environmental review before approving thepaving project last month. The suit says the parking lot will destroy a campus green spacethat supports wildlife and is popular with students. About 13,500 square feet out of 50,000 square feet of garden willbe uprooted for the lot.
