Keeping America's musical future alive. (Dear Reader).

Keeping America's musical future alive. (Dear Reader). In 1989, a significant event took place in the life of MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National AssociationMTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee). A"new and improved" MTNA FOUNDATION was chartered. The new MTNAFOUNDATION possesses a broader vision than its predecessor. In fact, since 1989, the process has been underway to "reinvent" theMTNA FOUNDATION. The FOUNDATION leadership has been, and remains today, committed to taking fresh looks at the way the FOUNDATION functions, questioning the status quo [Latin, The existing state of things at any given date.] Status quo ante bellum means the state of things before the war. The status quo to be preserved by a preliminary injunction is the last actual, peaceable, uncontested status which preceded the pending controversy. and seeking creative approaches that willmake the FOUNDATION more relevant to our present culture and moreresponsive to the opportunities around us. The "reinvention" of the MTNA FOUNDATION has producedseveral significant accomplishments over the past thirteen years. * The Teacher Enrichment Grants Program has distributed more than100 grants since 1995 totaling $95,000. * The Local Association Grants Program has awarded 165 grantstotaling $85,348 since the inception of this program in 1993. * The FOUNDATION provides financial support for the MTNACompetitions winners, for the Studio Teacher Fellowship and for theGroup Piano Teaching Seminar. Of course, we will not stop with these accomplishments. We havebarely scratched the surface of possibilities. We are expanding ourfundraising efforts to include planned giving Planned Giving is an area of fundraising that refers to several specific gift types that can be funded with cash or property. These gift vehicles are based on United States tax law. and charitable giftannuities A Charitable Gift Annuity is a gift vehicle that falls in the category of Planned Giving. It involves a contract between a donor and a charity, whereby the donor transfers cash or property to the charity in exchange for a partial tax deduction and a lifetime stream of annual income . And we will develop new programs to meet the newopportunities of this new age. We are the only foundation in the worlddevoted to the studio music teacher. And, because of this uniqueness, our focus for giving grants and other financial assistance will remainthe independent and collegiate music teachers and their students. All of this, however, comes with a price. None of the things we do,none of the vital assistance we provide, can be done without money. That's why I'm writing this today. The MTNA FOUNDATION needs your support. We need the steady flow ofcontributions in order to continue the steady flow of grants, awards andprogram support. The motto of the MTNA FOUNDATION is "keeping America'smusical future alive for succeeding generations." By supporting theMTNA FOUNDATION and its unique mission, you will ensure this compellingvision will be achieved. In fact, when one considers the potential of24,000 music teachers giving to support these exciting programs, wetruly have the ability to mold musical futures for generations to come. Before us lies a formidable agenda. But it is one that can beaccomplished as we work together, each giving our best for the good ofall. Gary L. Ingle ingle?n.1. An open fire in a fireplace.2.
