The 2008 winner isMarlene Morgan Morgan,American family of financiers and philanthropists.Junius Spencer Morgan, 1813–90, b. West Springfield, Mass., prospered at investment banking. . Marlene is a dedicated ACEI member who has made numerouscontributions to the organization. Marlene served as the University ofHouston-Clear Lake ACEI Branch President (20032004), and organized auniversity-wide outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public. program to help children in war-torn Baghdad.Under Marlene's leadership, the Branch collected educationalmaterials and gently used clothing to send to the children affected bythe war in Baghdad. Currently, Marlene is Co-Adviser to both theUniversity of Houston-Clear Lake ACEI and Lee College-Baytown ACEI. For more than five years, Marlene has been an advocate for the"Starfish Kenya" program for the House of Hope in Kenya, ahome for children orphaned or��phan?n.1. a. A child whose parents are dead.b. A child who has been deprived of parental care and has not been adopted.2. A young animal without a mother.3. by AIDS. Marlene organized and coordinateddonations for the children's education needs. Last year, the Branchraised enough funds to provide books and other educational materials tothe 78 children living at the House of Hope. Also, under Marlene's guidance, each spring the UHCL UHCL University of Houston - Clear Lake (Texas)ACEIBranch sponsors a community outreach program titled "FirstBook," a one-day event one-day eventa contraction of the three-day event but like that contest is aimed at selecting the best all-round horse and rider. The events usually contested are show-jumping, dressage and cross-country. of literacy and language for at-risk andspecial-needs students in the local community. Branch members raisefunds through Scholastic book fairs and other activities to sponsor theevent. Highlights of the day include free books, goody bags, and doorprizes. This year, both Lee College-Baytown ACEI and UHCL ACEI workedtogether to host 1,400 children and parent volunteers on February 15,2008. Marlene consistently demonstrates her commitment and dedication toher students, Branch members, and children through her many activitiesand actions. She is truly an exemplary ACEI member who has madeoutstanding contributions to the betterment of children, to the field ofeducation, and to ACEI.
